Incidents and breakdowns. If your vehicle breaks down, or if you have an incident on a crossing you should
get everyone out of the vehicle and clear of the crossing immediately
use a railway telephone if available to tell the signal operator. Follow the instructions you are given
move the vehicle clear of the crossing if there is time before a train arrives. If the alarm sounds, or the amber light comes on, leave the vehicle and get clear of the crossing immediately.
Railway Crossing Emergency Protocol :
Evacuate All Occupants Immediately
The first priority is to get everyone out of the vehicle and move them clear of the crossing area without delay .
Contact the Signal Operator
Use the dedicated railway telephone if one is available at the crossing to inform the signal operator of the situation .
Follow Professional Instructions
Listen carefully to the signal operator and strictly follow any instructions provided by them .
Move Vehicle Only if Safe
Attempt to move the vehicle clear of the crossing only if there is sufficient time before a train is scheduled to arrive .
Abandon Vehicle on Warning Signals
If the alarm sounds or the amber warning light activates , stop all recovery efforts , leave the vehicle immediately , and get clear of the crossing .
