User-operated gates or barriers. Some crossings have ‘Stop’ signs and small red and green lights. You MUST NOT cross when the red light is showing, only cross if the green light is on. If crossing with a vehicle, you should
open the gates or barriers on both sides of the crossing
check that the green light is still on and cross quickly
close the gates or barriers when you are clear of the crossing.

How to Safely Use User - Operated Level Crossings
Red Light = STOP
You MUST NOT cross the tracks when the red light is showing ; it is a mandatory safety prohibition .
1. Open both gates or barriers
Green Light = PROCEED
You may only begin the crossing process if the green light is illuminated and the crossing is clear .
Before moving your vehicle onto the tracks , you must manually open the gates on both the entrance and exit sides of the cressing .
2. Re - check light and cross quickly Confirm the green light is still showing before driving across the tracks as quickly and safely as possible .
Observe ' Stop ' Signs :
Always look for and obey the ' Stop ' signs posted at these user - operated crossing locations .
3. Close both gates or barriers
Once your vehicle is completely clear of the crossing area , you must return to close and secure the gates on both sides .
