If another person is injured and you do not produce your insurance certificate at the time of the crash to a police officer or to anyone having reasonable grounds to request it, you MUST
report it to the police as soon as possible and in any case within 24 hours
produce your insurance certificate for the police within seven days.

THE INCIDENT TRIGGER
REPORT TO POLICE WITHIN 24 HOURS
You MUST report the crash to the police as soon as possible , and strictly within a 24 - hour window .
These rules apply specifically when another person has been injured in a vehicle crash .
FAILURE TO PRODUCE INSURANCE
If you do not provide your insurance certificate at the time of the crash to a police officer or someone with reasonable grounds to see it , the following legal requirements are triggered .
PRODUCE CERTIFICATE WITHIN 7 DAYS
You MUST produce your valid insurance certificate for the police within seven days of the incident .

These requirements are legally mandated under the Road Traffic Act ( RTA ) 1988 , Section 170 .
