Before merging , build up sufficient speed on the shoulder and use your indicators to signal your intent to traffic .
Mandatory Telephone Use
You MUST use the provided emergency telephone ; this is a legal requirement under Law RTA 1988 sect 36 .
Watch for a Safe Gap
Carefully monitor the live lanes and wait for a clear , safe opening in the traffic flow before moving out .
Follow Operator Instructions You must wait for and follow the specific advice provided by the operator for exiting the area .

Potential Lane Closures
To ensure a safe exit , the operator may need to coordinate the closure of a live lane so you can rejoin the carriageway .
