Parking on hills. If you park on a hill you should:

park close to the kerb and apply the handbrake firmly
select a forward gear and turn your steering wheel away from the kerb when facing uphill
select reverse gear and turn your steering wheel towards the kerb when facing downhill
use ‘park’ if your car has an automatic gearbox.

Always park close to the kerb ; handbrake provides the first line of defense .

HANDBRAKE APPLIED

SCENARIO A : FACING UPHILL

SELECT A FORWARD GEAR ( Manual vehicles ) : Engage a forward gear to help hold vehicle's weight .

SELECT REVERSE GEAR ( Manual vehicles ) : Select reverse gear to utilize engine braking as backup .

AUTOMATIC GEARBOX SETTING :

Select " Park " on any incline

TURN WHEELS AWAY FROM THE KERB

If car rolls backward , tires hit kerb and stop vehicle .

SCENARIO B : FACING DOWNHILL

TURN WHEELS TOWARDS THE KERB: Forward movement causes tires to catch on the kerb immediately .
