Rule 242 : Safe Positioning and Road Obstruction

PROHIBITED ACTIONS

No Dangerous Positioning Drivers are legally prohibited from leaving a vehicle or trailer in any position that poses a danger to other road users .

LEGAL FRAMEWORK

Road Traffic Act 1988 This rule is enforced under Section 22 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 , providing a statutory basis for the requirement .

Avoid Unnecessary Obstruction The rule forbids leaving a vehicle where it creates a hindrance or blockage to the road that is deemed unnecessary .

Scope Includes Trailers These regulations apply equally to motorized vehicles and any trailers being towed or left stationary on the roadway .
