Before you set off

you MUST be able to see, so clear all snow and ice from all your windows
you MUST ensure that lights are clean and number plates are clearly visible and legible
make sure the mirrors are clear and the windows are demisted thoroughly
remove all snow that might fall off into the path of other road users
check your planned route is clear of delays and that no further snowfalls or severe weather are predicted.

The Rule 229 Pre - Drive Checklist

Maximizing Visibility

Clear All Windows of Snow and Ice

This is a mandatory requirement ( MUST ) to ensure the driver has a full , unobstructed view of the road before moving .

Thoroughly Demist and Clear Mirrors

Ensure all mirrors are clear and interior glass is fully demisted to maintain 360 - degree awareness .

Clean Lights and Visible Number Plates

You MUST ensure that all lights are clean and that number plates are clearly visible and legible to remain compliant with RVLR and VERA regulations .

Vehicle Exterior & Identification

Remove Roof Snow

Clear any snow from the vehicle body that might fall off and obstruct the path or vision of other road users .

Check that your planned path is free of delays and confirm that no further severe weather or snowfalls are predicted for your travel window .
