Mandatory Flashing Amber Beacons
These vehicles MUST be equipped with a fiasting amber beacon when traveling on a dual carriageway where the speed limit exceeds 50 mph ( 80 km / h ) .
Limited Advance Warning on Other Roads
On roads other than high - speed dual carriageways , motorials may not receive the advance warning of an amber beacon when approaching these slow - moving vehicles .
