In slow-moving and queuing traffic you should keep crossings completely clear, as blocking these makes it difficult and dangerous for pedestrians to cross. You should not enter a pedestrian crossing if you are unable to completely clear the crossing. Nor should you block advanced stop lines for cycles.

Rule 192 : Keeping Crossings Clear in Queuing Traffic
Assess the Space Ahead : Do not enter a pedestrian crossing if you are unable to completely clear the area and exit on the other side .
Keep Crossings Completely Clear :
In slow - moving or queuing traffic , you must ensure that your vehicle does not come to a stop on top of a pedestrian crossing .
Prevent Dangerous Obstructions : Blocking a crossing makes it difficult and dangerous for pedestrians to cross the street safely , often forcing them into the flow of traffic .
Respect Advanced Stop Lines ( ASLs ) : Drivers must not block the advanced stop lines designated for cycles when traffic is queuing at signals .
Advanced Stop Lines : These are the marked areas at junctions that allow cyclists to wait ahead of motorized traffic for better visibility and safety .
The Danger of " Trapping " Pedestrians :
A vehicle stopped on a crossing acts as a physical barrier , obscuring sightlines for both the pedestrian and other moving vehicles .
