The Primary Directive
Exception : Safety Hazard
The General Amber Rule: When the amber light appears , the default requirement is to stop before the white line .
The ' Stop ' Line Boundary :
Drivers are legally required to remain behind the white ' Stop ' line painted across their side of the road unless specific light conditions are met .
Green Means Go
You may only cross the ' Stop ' line and proceed through the junction when the traffic light is green .
Exception : Already Crossed
You may continue if you have already crossed the ' Stop ' line when the amber light appears .
Exception : Safety Hazard Amber linger
You may proceed on amber if you are so close to the ' Stop ' line that stopping suddenly might cause a collision with other vehicles .
