Understanding Rule 128 : Overtaking on Double White Lines
Permitted Overtaking
Broken Line Nearest to You : When the double white line closest to your vehicle is broken , the law permits you to cross the lines to overtake slower traffic .
Safety First
You must only attempt to cross or overtake if it is absolutely safe to do so based on oncoming traffic and visibility .
Completing the Maneuver
Timing the Return : You must ensure the entire overtaking maneuver is finished before you reach a section where the line on your side becomes solid .
Watch for Road Arrows : Look for white direction arrows painted on the road ; these are critical visual cues indicating that you must return to your side of the road immediately .
