Police stopping procedures. If the police want to stop your vehicle they will, where possible, attract your attention by
flashing blue lights, headlights or sounding their siren or horn, usually from behind
directing you to pull over to the side by pointing and/or using the left indicator.
You MUST then pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so. Then switch off your engine.

Rule 106 : What to Do When the Police Stop Your Vehicle
PHASE 1 :
ATTRACTING YOUR ATTENTION
Flashing Lights
Police will use flashing blue lights or headlights , usually positioned behind your vehicle , to signal that they want you to stop .
Sounding the Siren or Horn Officers may use a siren or a horn to get your attention if visual signals are not immediately noticed .
PHASE 2 : DIRECTIONAL INSTRUCTIONS
Pointing to the Side
Once your attention is captured , the officer will direct you to pull over by pointing toward the side of the road .
Using the Left Indicator
The police vehicle will often use its left indicator to clearly signal where you should move your vehicle .

DRIVER REQUIREMENTS & THE LAW
Pull Over Safely and Immediately
You MUST pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so .
Switch Off Your Engine
Once the vehicle has come to a complete stop at the side of the road , you must turn off the engine .
Law RTA 1988 Section 163: Failure to comply with these police stopping procedures is a violation of the Road Traffic Act 1988 .
