Rule 103 ↗
Signals warn and inform other road users, including pedestrians (see ‘Signals to other road users), of your intended actions. You should always

give clear signals in plenty of time, having checked it is not misleading to signal at that time
use them to advise other road users before changing course or direction, stopping or moving off
cancel them after use
make sure your signals will not confuse others. If, for instance, you want to stop after a side road, do not signal until you are passing the road. If you signal earlier it may give the impression that you intend to turn into the road. Your brake lights will warn traffic behind you that you are slowing down
use an arm signal to emphasise or reinforce your signal if necessary. Remember that signalling does not give you priority.

PHASE 1 : PREPARATION & TIMING

Signal Early and Clearly

Always give signals in plenty of time after checking that the timing of your signal will not be misleading to others .

Check Before You Act

Before changing course , direction , stopping , or moving off , use signals to advise all other road users of your intent .

Your brake lights serve as a primary warning to traffic behind you that you are slowing down .

Avoid ' Side Road ' Confusion

Correct Action

If you intend to stop after a side road , do not signal until you are actually passing that road to avoid the impression that you are turning into it .

Use Arm Signals for Emphasis

If a standard indicator is not enough or needs reinforcement , use an arm signal to emphasize your intentions to others .

Signaling is Not Priority

Remember that signaling only informs others of your intent ; it does not give you the right of way or priority over other road users .

Cancel Your Signals

Once the maneuver is complete , ensure you cancel the signal immediately so it does not continue to mislead or confuse other road users .
