Safety First : The Rear - Facing Baby Seat Rule
RISK OF SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH
If a crash occurs , the deployment of the airbag can strike the baby seat with enough force to cause fatal injuries to the child .
THE REAR - FACING PROHIBITION
A rear - facing baby seat MUST NOT be fitted into any vehicle seat that is protected by an active frontal airbag .
ACTIVE AIRBAGS ARE DANGEROUS TO INFANTS: The " active " status of the airbag is the primary hazard ; if the airbag cannot be deactivated , the seat cannot be used for a rear - facing child .
LEGAL REQUIREMENTS
GOVERNED BY THE ROAD TRAFFIC ACT : This safety rule is legally mandated under RTA 1988 sections 14 & 15 .
2006 SAFETY REGULATIONS : Compliance is required by the Motor Vehicles ( Wearing of Seat Belts ) ( Child Cars Seats ) Regulations 2006 .
