Rule H3 : Protecting Vulnerable Road Users at Junctions
Do Not Cut Across
You must not turn across the path of cyclists , horse riders , or horse - drawn vehicles going ahead when you are turning or changing lanes .
No Forced Maneuvers
Do not turn at a junction if it would cause a cyclist or horse rider to have to stop or swerve to avoid you .
Treat Like Motor Vehicles
Apply the same priority rules to vulnerable road users as you would to any other motor vehicle on the road .
When and Where to Wait
Wait for the Safe Gap
If necessary , drivers must come to a complete stop and wait for a safe gap in the flow of cyclists before proceeding .
Junction and Roundabout Specifics
Applies to All Infrastructure
These rules apply whether the cyclist is on the main road , In a designated cycle lane , or using a cycle track .
Stationary or Slow Traffic: You must wait for cyclists who are moving past or waiting alengside stationary or slow - moving traffic .
Passing the Junction
Always wait for the cyclist to fully pass the junction before you attempt to turn into or out of it .
Left and Right Turns: Rule H3 applies regardless of direction ; you must yield when turning both left and right into a junction .
Roundabout Navigation
Give way to vulnerable road users who are approaching , patt , moving off from , or travelling around a roundabout .
