LEGAL MANDATES ( THE " MUSTS " )

Mandatory Helmet Use for Two - Wheelers

On all journeys , both the rider and the pillion passenger on a motorcycle , scooter , or moped MUST wear a protective helmet .

Regulatory Compliance & Fastening

All helmets must comply with official Regulations and must be securely fastened to provide the intended protection .

Legal Basis for Enforcement : These governed by the Road Traffic Act 1988 ( Sections 16 & 17 ) and the MC ( PH ) R as amended ( Regulation 4 ) .

EXCEPTIONS & RECOMMENDATIONS

Recommendations for Tricycles and Quadbikes

While not listed as a " MUST , " riders and passengers of motor tricycles and quadricycles ( quadbikes ) should wear a protective heimet for safety .

Religious Exemption for Sikh Riders

The mandatory helmet requirement does not apply to followers of the Sikh religion while they are wearing a turban .
