Pedestrian Safety :
Rules for Roads and Junctions
Walking Where There is No Pavement
Keep to the Right - Hand Side
Walk on the right side of the road to ensure you are facing and can see oncoming traffic .
Navigating Junctions
Move in Single File
Be prepared to walk in a single line , especially on narrow roads , in poor lighting , or when keeping close to the road's edge .
Pedestrian Priority at Junctions
If you have already started crossing a road at a junction and traffic wants to turn into it , you have priority and they should give way .
Traffic Should Give Way
When you are crossing or waiting to cross a junction , other traffic is expected to give way to you .
Strategy for Sharp Right - Hand Bends
For better visibility , cross to the other side well before reaching a sharp right - hand bend and cross back once the bend is cleared .
Watch for Turning Traffic
Be particularly vigilant of vehicles turning into the road from behind you and always choose a crossing point where drivers can see you clearly .
