Rule 58 : Safety Guidelines for Herding Animals on the Road
DAYTIME MOVEMENT & VISIBILITY
MAINTAIN CONSTANT CONTROL :
Animals being herded must be kept under strict control at all times to ensure they do not stray into the path of vehicles .
PRIORITIZE BLIND SPOTS :
Extra caution and warnings are necessary when approaching bends in the road or the brow of a hill where drivers have limited sightlines .
DEPLOY A FORWARD LOOKOUT : If possible , send a person ahead of the herd to provide early warnings to encoming road users .
Avoid Night Movement
It is significantly safer to schedule animal movements during daylight hours rather than after dark .

If moving at night , handlers must carry a white light at the front of the herd ...
WEAR REFLECTIVE CLOTHING :
Handlers must wear high - visibility reflective gear to ensure they are seen by motorists in the dark .
