The safest way to follow Rule 55 is to seek alternative routes that bypass roundabouts entirely .
Once on the roundabout , maintain a steady position on the left - hand side of the lane .
SIGNALING YOUR INTENT
Signal Right to Continue
While riding across exits that you are NOT taking . keep your right signal on to show other drivers you are staying on the roundabout .
Signal Left to Depart
Switch your signal to the left just before you reach your intended exit to clearly indicate you are leaving the roundabout .
Watch for Crossing Traffic
Stay alert for vehicles crossing your path , specifically those joining the roundabout or those attempting to leave at various exits .
