PROHIBITED ROADS

DUAL CARRIAGEWAY REGULATIONS

LEGAL CITATIONS

Road Traffic Regulation Act ( RTRA )

Governed by RTRA sections 17 ( 2 ) and 17 ( 3 ) .

Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations ( RVLR )

Safety lighting requirements are mandated under RVLR regulations 17 ( 1 ) and 26 .

Motorways ( Rule 253 ): Under Rule 46 , these specific vehicles MUST NOT be used on any motorway at any time .

Unrestricted Dual Carriageways ( > 50 mph )

Use is discouraged on roads where the limit exceeds 50 mph ( 80 km / h ) ; if used , the vehicle MUST be equipped with a flashing amber beacon .

Beacon Requirement ( Rule 220 )

Flashing amber beacons serve as the primary warning signal to other motorists of the vehicle's presence on high- speed roads .

Standard Dual Carriageways

For all other dual carriageways not exceeding 50 mph , a flashing amber beacon should be used for safety and visibility .
