Rule 40 : Transitioning Safely from Pavement to Road
Phase 1 :
Preparation & Observation
Before moving off the pavement , always look around in all directions to ensure it is completely safe to join the traffic flow .
Perform a Full 360 - Degree Check
Prioritize Safety Over Speed
Taking special care during the transition is the primary requirement for moving off the pavement onto the road .
Phase 2 : Choosing Your Route
Phase 3 : Technical Kerb Navigation
Approach at a Right Angle
If you must climb or descend a standard kerb , always approach it at exactly 90 degrees ( right angles ) to maintain balance .
Seek Out Dropped Kerbs
Always try to use a dropped kerb when moving off the pavement , as these are designed for safe transitions .
Travel Further for Better Access
Even if it requires travelling a longer distance to find one , a dropped kerb is the preferred and safest exit point .
Respect Manufacturer Limits
Never attempt to negotiate a kerb that is higher than the specific height recommendations provided by your vehicle's manufacturer .
