Navigating Staggered Crossings : Understanding Rule 28
What is a Staggered Crossing ?
Two Separate Crossings Because the paths are offset , the law treats the journey across the road as two distinct , independent events .
These are pelican or puffin crossings where the paths on each side of the central refuge are not in line with each other .
Step 1 : Reach the Central Island
Cross the first half of the road when signaled and proceed to the central refuge / island in the middle of the street .
Step 2 :
Reactivate the Signal
Upon reaching the island , you must press the pedestrian button again to request a crossing for the second half of the road .
Step 3 : Wait for the Green Figure
Do not cross the second half until you see a steady green figure , as the timing is separate from the first half of the crossing .
