Mastering the Crossing :

A Pedestrian's Guide to Rule 18

Phase 1 :

Before You Step Out

Verify Traffic Has Stopped

Always ensure all approaching vehicles have come to a complete standstill before beginning your crossing .

Phase 2 :

Positioning for Safety

Stay Within the Markings

You must always cross strictly between the metal studs or directly over the white zebra markings .

Avoid the " Danger Zones "

Never cross at the side of the designated area or on the zig - zag lines , as visibility and safety are compromised there .

Phase 3 : During the Cross

Lead with Caution , Not the Pram

When pushing a pram or stroller , check that traffic has stopped before pushing it onto the crossing .

Keep Moving - Do Not Loiter

It is a legal requirement under TSRGD Schedule 14 and RTRA Section 25 ( 5 ) that you must not linger or loiter on any type of crossing .
