Crossing Safely Between Parked Vehicles

CRITICAL SAFETY WARNINGS

THE SAFE CROSSING SEQUENCE

Use the " Virtual Kerb "

When crossing between parked cars , walk to the outside edges of the vehicles and treat that line as if it were the actual kerb .

Check for Running Engines

Never cross the road in front of or behind any vehicle that has its engine running .

Establish Visibility

Stop at the edge of the vehicles to ensure you can see all around and , crucially , that oncoming traffic can see you .

Verify the Exit Gap

Before crossing , make sure there is a clear gap between parked vehicles on the opposite side so you can safely reach the pavement .

Beware of Large Vehicle Blind Spots

Drivers of large vehicles often cannot see pedestrians directly behind or in front of them ; avoid these areas entirely if the engine is on .
